Christmas 2009 GRIP held it's third consecutive X-mass party for their rape survivor children on 8 December 2009. More or less 700 children who experienced the unfortunate trauma of rape or sexual assault only during 2009, who received rehabilitation from GRIP, attended this function. The function provided the survivors with a day of care free play, fun, laughter and plenty of jumping castles, and water sports. We try to bring our survivor children all together once a year, to show them that we care for them and support them, and that there is hope and life after rape. Majority of the children were under 12 years old and it remains a challenge for all involved in the day not to become emotional, but the GRIP staff and volunteer counselors ensured that they day was filled with songs, dances, lots of treats, and the highlight was Father X-mass arriving at the function and handing each and every child a teddy bear as a gift. GRIP reaches more then 2000 survivors of rape, sexual assault and domestic violence every year and we would like to thank the Nelspruit community for their generous support and contributions towards this day as well as towards our services through out the year. GRIP belongs to the community as it serves its members and only through taking hands, and the ongoing support and donations from individuals, businesses, donors and the government, can special days like this come true, and reach hundreds of traumatized children, and making a difference. GRIP would also like to thank each and every person who joins in our campaign for compassion and may all have a festive season. | |
