COME TO GRIP WITH NEW OFFICES
Lowvelder 4 OCTOBER 2002
This week the Grip Rape Intervention Project moved to new offices at 46 Anderson Street, opposite the Paint Centre.
Except for a short interruption in telephone and fax services due to their moving, the phone numbers will remain the same. Grip CEO, Ms Barbara Kenyon, also emphasises that, even though their surroundings may now look very professional, they still remain the friendly NGO and that friends, survivors or interested people are equally welcome to visit them there.
This move became necessary when the Anglican Church, where their offices had been accommodated, needed the space for their own use.
The new premises, with electricity and water, is sponsored by Spar Lowveld, for which Grip is extremely grateful. This means that they can still operate in such a way that at least 85% of their income goes directly to the people in need. Grip is one of the only few NGO's that does not pay market related salaries to its employees - those few who are remunerated. Most of the staff are volunteers.
The new offices are near the Rob Ferreira Hospital, the court, police, Mopani Pharmacy (where they obtain their medicines) and the Department of Social Welfare, with whom they liase closely.
Grip does, however, still need second hand chairs or even a lounge suite for the reception area. They also call on volunteers to join in a paint and pizza party to paint murals.
