The story of Alison is riveting and marvelously portrays the fact that we as human beings are capable of much more than we give ourselves credit for. She survived one of the most gruesome attacks recorded; In December 1994, Alison was abducted outside her home by two men who raped, stabbed and disemboweled her, finally slashing her throat 16 times to make sure she was dead. No-one could have believed that anyone with such severe injuries could live but, miraculously, she did. Alison is now a renowned international speaker and on the 27th of October 2007 GRIP had the honor of having Alison visit Nelspruit to present her glorious triumph of survival from a terrible ordeal, as part of an awareness program about abuse and personal struggle and the means of overcoming such obstacles. The day presented all attending the opportunity to reconnect with their inner strength and it was focused on by Alison that we all possessed the ability to overcome any ordeal if we set our mind to it and had the will to do so. Alison is living proof that no matter what your situation you can decide whether or not you will allow it to take control. Together with people like Alison and organizations like GRIP serving as example and assistance, people can take control of their emotional struggle again and look at the future once more with self confidence and live triumphantly as survivors rather than victims.
